London Swimming Club Survey
London Swimming is carrying out a survey to get the views and opinions of club members, parents, officials, and volunteers within the region, and to find out what they know about London Swimming, and how the region operates. Please click on this link

London Region Management Board is having an away day on the 22
nd June to discuss regional issues, and would like to be as informed as possible about your current needs so we would like all responses in by 17 June.
Water Polo News
As of the 1
st June Nik Jovanovic left the ASA and took up a new position at Haberdasher’s Aske’s School in North London which currently hosts the North Regional Training Centre. Nik joined the ASA in March 2008 and although sorry to see him go he has left a sustainable water polo legacy in West London which is a tribute to his enthusiasm, skill and hard work. Nik will still be running the London Youth Games Water Polo event so please support this event. For more information click

Nik has almost finished his tutor training so hopefully very soon we will be advertising waterpolo courses in London!
Nik moving on also means the region needs to consult on its Water Polo direction.
Nikki Baker is co-ordinating this work and has pulled together an overview paper to start the discussion going. So if you are a swimming club wanting to diversify or a waterpolo club wanting to grow then please read the strategy outline paper (

These Awards recognise the invaluable contribution that volunteers make to aquatic sport at all levels. Have you nominated someone for the awards yet! If not do it now!

North London Coaching Bursary Scheme
Interested In Gaining a Free Level 2 Qualification!!
The North London Coaching Bursary Scheme (NLCBS) will target 40 North London coaches providing them with the opportunity to undertake a level 2 coaching qualification with a financial bursary made available to those who successfully complete their course and deliver voluntary coaching hours.
More qualified coaches on the ground working in North London Clubs and Communities will support an increase in participation, contributing to the overall objective of one million more people participating in regular sport and physical activity. This scheme contributes to Sport Unlimited and the overall retention on 8151 young people (5-19s) in regular sport in North London.

Essex County Open Water Championships
Whitlingham Country Park Trowse Norwich NR14 8TR, Sunday 18th July 2010
The East Region Open Water Championships also incorporate The Essex County Open Water Championships. Events are 800m, 1500m, 3k and 5k
County Championship entry is open to all swimmers who are members of an Essex club and are 11 years old by 31st December 2010. The East Region event is an open event and therefore entries can be made by any member of an ASA Club.

Children’s Learn to Dive lessons at Queen Mothers Sports Centre, Victoria, SW1V, now available for 5-16 year olds between 5.30-7.30pm. For bookings please contact the Sports Centre, on 020 7630 5522.
Dive Recorder Training Course available – book now
The dive recorder course is now confirmed on Saturday 19th June from 9am - 1pm. It will be held in The London Leisure Centre at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre and the tutor is Frank Clewlow. The cost is £20.00 per person. For full details of the course please contact Debbie Aldridge at

All 3 workshops MUST be attended in order to complete course and all candidates must be members of the ASA (ie have an ASA membership no.)

NGB - CPD Opportunities
Funding for your Sport and Physical Activity Organisation (LSBU - 1/07/10)
This 3 hour workshop is aimed at anyone who is either working or volunteering in the field of sport and or physical activity and is interested in raising funds for their club or organisation or just generally wants an overview of the funding landscape.
Understanding the Sporting Landsacpe (LSBU - 30/06/10)
This 3 hour workshop is aimed at sports coaches, managers, development officers, students and volunteers that work or study in the field of sport, physical activity and education. The course will help delegates to learn about the development and delivery of sport and physical activity in this country.
Both courses are £30 per person or for a booking of 4 or more - £100
All ASA club members can get a 10% discount on the price, if you make it clear that you are a member and can provide a membership number.

On Saturday Colin Brown (RD) and Lynne Preston (CSC North) facilitated the Aquatic Strategy consultation for the Borough with Becontree and Dagenham Swimming Club. The event was well attended by the club and was a really good debate. A final Aquatics Strategy will be circulated during July.
This Saturday Colin (RD) will be attending the BAGCATs at Crystal Palace on the Saturday afternoon. He is also preparing for the Great East and Great London Swims at the end of June and early July respectively.
This week Kate O’Neill (CSC South London) visited Saxon Crown SC to find out more about the club and its structure.
