Geneva International Meet 15 – 17 January 2010
The Swiss City of Geneva surrounded by the snowy Alps provided the setting for the first official London Region swimming team to compete against many European clubs and federations. The debut certainly made an impression on this long established traditional year opening meet with the London team running away with the top points award and 22 gold medals.
The tough selection policy required to make this team meant that all the 21 swimmers were in the National top 7 in their age group at the end of last season and consequently all swimmers made at least one final. Swimmers ranged in age from 15 to 29 and included full GB internationals, Commonwealth Games medallists, GB European Junior representatives and many national medallists and finalists. The team drew swimmers from clubs across the region with Camden Swiss Cottage, Ealing, Hillingdon, Barnet Copthall, Beckenham, Waltham Forest, Romford and Leander all placing swimmers on the team. On our team we have a Sports Nutritionist, Sports Psychologist, 2 Sports Physiotherapists, an Osteopath and a Strength & Conditioning Coach, all of which have worked with performance athletes ranging from County right through to Olympic standard. This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim 21 Quality co-ordinator) and had an interesting first assessment with Becontree SC and a fabulous final assessment with Greenwich SC.  She would also like to give a warm welcome to Esther Hills who will be taking over from her while she is on maternity leave from 12 February.

Tonight Jemma and Paralympian husband Dervis Konuralp are looking forward to attending the Orpington Ojays presentation evening where Dervis will be presenting them with their much deserved swim21 certificates.  Jemma will also be attending Purley H20 on Sunday to undertake the first part of their assessment.
