Sports Science packages for clubs prove to be very popular
London Swimming’s Sports Science Programme has proved to be very popular with London Clubs. There has been a lot of interest in the programme which is aimed at supporting clubs and its members through improving performance. There are a variety of options for clubs to choose from whether it needs to be an education session, or a more personal session such as a one to one. The sessions can be delivered to athletes and parents or coaches, and there is flexibility around the options to ensure the delivery meets the needs of the club and its audience, at reasonable prices. On our team we have a Sports Nutritionist, Sports Psychologist, 2 Sports Physiotherapists, an Osteopath and a Strength & Conditioning Coach, all of which have worked with performance athletes ranging from County right through to Olympic standard. Congratulations to Ann van Beukelen who, at the ASA Council last weekend in Stratford upon Avon was presented with the prestigious Alfred H Turner award.
Ann has served the sport of Swimming for many years at Club, County, Regional and National levels.
Ann was a member of the London Region Shadow Board and then served a term on the new London Board when the Region came in to being. She still sits on the Regional Swimming and Events Committees and as the Region’s Medal Officer. She was the first recipient of the Jeff Cook Memorial salver for services to the Region.
She has been a Referee for many years and officiates at all the local schools, clubs and Borough events and has not been known to turn down an event if she has space in her diary attending events all over London and the South East. She is always happy to introduce people to the art of Officiating and her approach has attracted many people to take up this valuable volunteer’s role. She is the Region’s representative on the National Swimming Officials Group.
London Region wins inaugural Talent Camp head-to-head meet
The asa Talent Camp season kicked off with a head-to-head swim meet between London and the South-East regions. A new initiative for the Talent Programme, the dual meet format was held at Barnet’s 25m facility and the format saw 2 age group swimmers, and 2 youth swimmers for each Region swimming against each other at the same time.
With all 8 lanes in use there were some exciting and tight races. Points were awarded in both age group and youth categories and combining the two gave an overall team winner. As an added incentive there were also cash prizes for the winner of each race in both categories. Three relay events were included with two male and two female swimmers racing over 4 x 100 medley, 4 x 100 free and 4 x200 free events. To read the full report click here.
