Sports Science packages for clubs
London Swimming proudly presents its Sports Science Programme aimed at supporting clubs and its members through improving performance. We have created a variety of options for clubs to choose from whether it needs to be an education session, or a more personal session such as a one to one.  The sessions can be delivered to athletes and parents or coaches, and there is flexibility around the options to ensure the delivery meets the needs of the club and its audience, at reasonable prices. On our team we have a Sports Nutritionist, Sports Psychologist, 2 Sports Physiotherapists, an Osteopath and a Strength & Conditioning Coach, all of which have worked with performance athletes ranging from County right through to Olympic standard.

Waterpolo update from Nik Jovanovic (West London Waterpolo coach)
The last couple of weeks have been busy for Nik who has been working with a number of clubs in West London developing waterpolo. Below is an update of recent events.

The start of the new season saw St Paul’s Barnes SC in conjunction with Penguins Water Polo Club start new junior water polo sessions with their U12 members.
Sessions run 9.30-10.30 in addition to their swimming sessions and there are more then 30 members enjoying their first steps in to water polo. Last week was their first training match, and everyone could see that there is a lot of potential in these youngsters.

Penguin’s junior water polo sessions at Fulham pools have proved to be very popular with 30-40 players each week. Due to limited pool space the more experienced U12 and U14 players will now start training at St Paul’s boy’s school.

Highgrove pool water polo session had 14 junior players last Saturday working hard and they are now practicing new drills and skills.

Ealing Dolphins, a house of Ealing Swimming Club, have started regular water polo sessions at Gurnell Swimming pool. Water Polo is proving very popular with youngsters and last week they had their first training match on a regular pitch size, which took a lot of effort and it was a great achievement from the young players. Another Ealing SC house in Acton last week, had its first water polo session since merging. We had 38 players of whom half were new to the sport, but everyone enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to seeing everyone back next week.

Also last week Nik attended an important meeting with representatives of British water polo, London swimming, Ealing SC and West London Penguins where it was decided that everyone would benefit from working together in creating more opportunities, and that they would be following the principles of LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) in junior water polo development in West London.

This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim 21 Quality co-ordinator) has been busy assessing clubs for the fast approaching Regional Panel.  On Monday she had a brilliant assessment with Orpington Ojays who impressed her with a number of new initiatives that she hadn't seen before.  Tuesday took her to Seymour Synchro where she was impressed by the junior group practicing for their competition on Saturday - good luck girls!  On Wednesday she battled through the rain to get to her last visit with Sutton & Cheam which concluded with their coaches meeting.  Finally she sat down on Thursday to start preparing her report on each of the clubs.  In between her visits she had an induction meeting with new panel member Kathy Hook from Bromley swimming club.

On Friday Jemma starts her re-accreditation assessment of Borough of Waltham Forest SC who have impressed her with the time they have put into their preparation.  Next Monday she has a meeting with the new County Swimming Co-ordinators to teach them the wondrous world of swim21!  Monday evening takes Jemma back to Romford Town to conclude their assessment.  On Tuesday Jemma is catching up with Newham SC along with the swim21 co-ordinator from Enfield who is going to give some advice and assistance to Newham on their road to accreditation.  Wednesday puts Jemma back at Borough of Waltham Forest for the final part of their assessment and finally on Saturday Jemma is playing swimming club cupid and is taking Greenwich SC to meet Croydon Amphibians!
