Colin Brown (RD) Back to work after a great but slightly damp holiday in Devon. The big highlight of the week was attending the launch with the Mayor, Kate Hoey MP, Rebecca Adlington of the launch of third mobile pool in London this year on the Southbank by the Thames. The British Gas Summer Camp pool is only around for 4 weeks but should make a real impact on the London skyline. For more info click here. Colin also had productive meetings with Fusion and kick started a workforce project with DC, GLL, Aquaterra and Barking & Dagenham Council to improve employment pathway with a range of leisure operators.Next week: Colin will be completing a round of staff appraisals and fine tuning his training (or lack of it) for the Great London Swim on August 15th in the Queen Victoria Dock. This week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Development Programme Co-ordinator) has had a busy schedule working on the website for Annual Conference and the Sports Science booking programmes, she caught up with Jo Melchior early in the week to discuss finances for the master class programme and the flyer design for marketing the programme. Jo has also been revising for a tutor exam and had to complete a Unit 6 assessment at Wavelengths, Deptford.  Preparations for next week’s tutor placement have also been confirmed with Ellie Purvis, this will see Jo unable to access emails & calls during working hours but will try to respond out of hours. Final details for Jo Jackson’s 5 day camp have kept Jo busy, we are offering clubs group discounts on bookings so for more info please contact Jo. CPD weekends are coming into demand for the end of the year, which Jo is starting to put details together and arrange meetings to get these booked and confirmed.
Jo’s main priority this week was to try and salvage her work and contacts as she lost it all when her hard drive crashed!  So if you are expecting a response don’t take it personally she may not have your contact details, so drop her an email as a reminder!

This week Jo Melchior (Project Manager) finalise her teaching and admin teams for the Mayoral Pool Programme. Jo is looking forward to getting the two teams together for some “bonding” ahead of delivery. The first member of the team Andrew Kalogirou came in for a meet and greet and an induction and no doubt will become a regular contributor to the weekly news. There are still many logistical issues to deal with in respect of the programme, however these will have to wait till Jo comes back from a week’s leave on Monday 17th.

Bastien Wallace (Project Manager - Barking & Dagenham) Fins, masks, snorkels, hotels, maps, agendas, minutes, meetings… Other than the usual rounds of meetings, Bastien is getting ready to go to Edinburgh to help get the Underwater Hockey course together, to see an international competition & try a game together with Laura & Neal from Barking & Dagenham. It’s great that these first volunteers come from the AbPhab group who work with young people with disabilities.  Perhaps it will be young people with disabilities who get to be the first to try this sport locally.  Looking forward to learning lots & having fun.”
