Spring Conference on Saturday 23rd May to be held at Lee in South East London

2009 London Swimming/ASA Aquaforce Volunteer Awards

Voting is now open for the London Swimming/ASA Aquaforce Volunteer Awards, so get voting now!  There are a variety of categories whether you would like to nominate a club coach, official or swim teacher, deadline is 1st July 2009.

Awards for All England is a simple grants scheme Offering Big Lottery Fund grants of between £300 to £10,000 to grassroots groups in the community and voluntary sector, health bodies, schools and parish or town councils.

The programme aims to make a difference to communities and the lives of those most in need and will focus on social and environmental projects that benefit local communities.

ASA Suspended Clubs & Associations 2009

As of 16 April some clubs are still suspended from membership of the ASA due to non payment of the 2009 membership fee. Members whose fee paying club is suspended for non-payment of fees will not be eligible to compete in events under the jurisdiction of the ASA which Includes Regional, County and open events. Furthermore the members are not covered by the ASA insurance policy.

Swimming News

Callum wins his 1st ever Scottish National Title - On Wednesday 8th April, 12 year old Callum Mitchell from Hillingdon SC, powered to his 1st ever Scottish National title in the 100m Backstroke. Full details are available here

Waterpolo News

Please find details of a Level 1 Water Polo course, the course is running in conjunction with a Water Polo Camp that has been organised by London Swimming and asa East Region. Further details available here.

Colin Brown (RD) This week Colin has been working with colleagues to create the specification for the new website and completing the annual Host Borough Status report. At the end of the week Colin will be meeting with other Regional Directors and Chairman and ASA Staff on current issues across the organisation. Colin will also be attending the FINA Diving World Cup in Sheffield.

 

Next week: Has a facility feel to it. We will see the opening of the mobile pool at Preston Park Primary School in Brent where we are deploying a teaching pool (12x6x0.9m) into a school hall. From there Colin will be visiting the Olympic Park to see progress on the Aquatics Centre with its two 50m and one diving pool. Then back to Crystal Palace which is about to return to its former glory and see how the final preparations are going for the opening. Colin will also spend time with Downside Fisher Youth Club who have a 15m pool in Southwark and support them looking at their plans for the future. Colin will also be meeting with the Johnny Wright the new Managing Director of Ealing Swimming Club on his ambitions to take the club forward.
