This week Janna Callan (RDO) has spent the majority of her time writing out handover notes to ensure a smooth handover to the London Swimming team next week when she starts her maternity leave. Next week Janna will be meeting with Killerwhales SC regarding their Swim 21 application and meeting with all the aquatic clubs in Barking and Dagenham to discuss the aquatic strategy for the area. Finally Janna will meet with key members of the team to handover any outstanding work areas.
This week Annabel Kehoe (EDS – Islington) finalised the preparations for the adult swimming lessons that begin next week. Over 400 people have been offered places and will take the plunge for the first time. The trend from the adult lessons run in October 2008 was that nearly half the people taking part had not been in a leisure centre in over a year, or had never been in one.
Next week Annabel will be ensuring that the first week of swimming lessons go smoothly, and will be working on the monitoring of the Liquid Swim programme.
Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) is on annual leave this week.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) met with Croydon Amphibians to discuss the new process and criteria for swim21. She was very impressed with the enthusiasm of the club and their already strong commitment to swim21. She also conducted the first assessment of Clissold SC who she was again very impressed with, as they had obviously put a lot of work into obtaining swim21.
Next week Jemma is visiting the synchronised swimming section of Barnet Copthall, and Streatham SC to discuss the new swim21 process and criteria.
Bastien Wallace (Project Manager Barking & Dagenham) - This week has seen the next crucial piece of the project slot into place with the selection of the appropriate NVQ via Barking College. Bastien is really excited about the prospect of creating opportunities for Barking & Dagenham people to develop aquatics careers – in tern delivering more activities for the borough’s children. She also had the opportunity to attend one of Dagenham Swimming Club’s sessions last Tuesday night and to see the swimmers, teachers, coach and volunteers in action. It was a good evening and a chance to put names to faces. This week too Bastien has been in Leisure Centres having face to face communications sessions with staff and customers. Keeping them up to date on what’s happening with the project. Adult & Child classes are continuing to increase in popularity at each of the pools within the contract.
