asa Talent Camp L2 – 10th & 11th January 2009
Abbs Cross Sports Centre, Romford, Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th January 2009
On one of the coldest days of the year, swimmers and staff arrived for the second of the England talent London region level 2 camps. The camps see some of the region’s most talented 15 – 16 year old swimmers arriving for 2 days of training and education.
The camp was a continuum of the September meeting but with the swimmers arriving much fitter, being further into the season, the sessions were also stepped up but without forgetting a strong emphasis on the skills and training techniques required to take their swimming to the next level. As with all England talent camps the programme is designed to support the work being done by the swimmers in their club programmes.
In addition to work in the pool the swimmers took part in land training, stretching, Physio sessions as well as lectures on lifestyle and what it takes to become a high level swimmer. In addition it gave some of the region’s top coaches time to exchange ideas, techniques and coaching philosophies.
Also making an appearance to see the swimmers at the camp was asa President Kay Grimshaw and London Region acting chair Vernon Davis.
The asa are running a series of Land Work and Core Stability CPDs for teachers and coaches. The cost of the course is only £5, however we appreciate that the courses are being held outside of London. We are assured that the asa will be running courses closer to London next year, however, is yet to release the dates and venue details.
