Ealing SC makes its mark at Dutch Nationals – now 10th best team in Holland !
Some Ealing SC senior swimmers traveled to Amsterdam just before Christmas to swim in the Dutch Short Course National Championships (25m pool).The small group of swimmers certainly made their mark at the meet held at the Sloterparkbed pool complex in the Dutch capital, finishing in 10th place in the medals table. Ealing swimmers also set 7 senior and 3 junior London region records and 5 Middlesex County senior records and 3 County junior records ( all subject to official ratification) . The girls relay teams continued their fine reputation in these events taking third spot in the 4 x 100 freestyle team with a superb time of 3.48.20 and fifth place in 4 x 100 medley, the girls team of Natalie Durant, Polly Kemp-King, Lauren Turner and Jenna Turner also set Regional, county and club records in the freestyle event – this event saw a new world record from a Dutch girls team ( 3.28.22) .
Chris Jones took 2nd spot in the 200m breaststroke with 2.13.14 and made 4th spot in the 50m & 5th spot in the 200m events. Natalie Durant took 3rd spot in the 200m back ( 2.11.96) whilst Lauren turner won the Junior title in the 100m (1.02.75) and 200m (2.15.92) back, and also the 200m free (2.02.63), she was also 3rd Junior in the 100m free (57.35) . Jenna Turner swum some excellent new best times to take 7th place in the 100m free with 55.53, 6th spot in the 200m free ( 2.00.23) and 8th spot in the B-final of the 100m fly with 103.78. . Kyle Barrett was 4th in the 200m back and 2nd in the B-final of the 100m back all in best times, whilst Connor Barrett made 2nd spot in the b-final of the 200IM.
Head Coach, Dave Heathcock, was very pleased with the results and especially pleased as illness had prevented two of the clubs senior internationals from traveling to Holland, both Gina Heyn and Charlie Turner would have strengthened the Gurnell Pool based team results even better. Jenna, Lauren, Chris and Kyle also set County and Regional records to round off a good end to the year.
The Ealing team trained hard over the Christmas period with a home based training camp, the start of the New Year will see swimmers in action in meets in Geneva, Sheffield and Windsor.
