Abbs Cross Sports Centre, Romford, Saturday 3rd January 2009

As the winter weather steadily got worse and worse to the start of the New Year, the first event in the London Swimming Calendar for 2009 took place in Romford with the 2nd camp of the Level 1 Talent Squad.

The camp saw 21 swimmers aged 12-14years attend for a day of education and training continuing the work that was started on Camp 1 in October. The camps aim to support and reinforce the work being done in the swimmers’ home programme and certainly the swimmers arrived in good shape and ready to work hard and take in the information on offer. Land work and lifestyle lectures as well as 2 x 2 hours pool sessions were all part of the day along with the ongoing testing. The swimmers showed marked improvement in both their pool work and with the results of the testing which compared the results with the last camp. There was also a talk given to the parents about age group swimming which included a question and answer session.

asa President, Kay Grimshaw, was also in attendance for some of day and spoke to the swimmers as well as observing the first pool session.
Head Coach of level 1, Allan Thornton, commented “ the swimmers all arrived in good shape and all the staff felt there was a marked improved in skill levels, the pool sessions were both challenging and we saw some great effort from the group. I look forward to our final camp of this years’ programme in April”
