Pool in the school
London Swimming is delighted to announce that in conjunction with Total Swimming Ltd, Lambeth & Southwark Sports Action Zone and Greenwich Leisure Ltd, we have secured the use of a temporary pool in Lilian Baylis Old School. The facility will be open for use by local schools, community groups and residents between Jan 6 – Feb 15 2009.
London Inter-borough Swimming Championship Finals.
On Saturday 29th November 2008, eight London Boroughs took part in the 2008 Inter-borough Swimming Championship Finals. The teams in the final were, the London Boroughs of Barnet, Ealing, Enfield, Greenwich, Harrow, Hillingdon, Richmond upon Thames and Waltham Forest. Despite strong competition from leading swimming Boroughs, Barnet swam home to finish 1st with 262.5 points, maintaining the last two year’s position. Second was Ealing with 232 points, Hillingdon came third with 214 points.
Advance Notice - ASA National Short Course Championships will be held the first weekend in December 2009.
Swimming Masterclass with Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen - 20, 21, & 22 February 2009

Adult & child teacher required at Dagenham Pool- Mondays and Fridays from 3:00pm till 4:00pm starting on Monday the 12th January - £20 for the hour plus travel costs.
Three year sponsorship deal for Gators
Borough of Waltham Forest Swimming Club – Gators were delighted when they were approached recently by property company Atlantic Housing with a sponsorship deal. Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has returned this week after winning gold at the Commonwealth Championships for Weightlifting, by catching up with emails and correspondence. She has also been identifying events and master classes for 2009 across the disciplines.
This week Janna Callan (RDO) was able to work on the Host Borough Report, met with Harrow and Wealdstone Swimming Club who she hopes will accredit to Swim21 at Skill Development level in February.
Next week Janna will be meeting with GLL to further Barnet Copthall’s Swim21 accreditation in Swimming, Diving, Synchro and Masters.

This week Jo Melchior (EDS Lewisham) has been busy collating monitoring information. She has also been preparing to meet with the Consultants who have been instructed to complete a borough strategy and a business plan for the local swimming club as part of a lasting legacy for Lewisham from the Everyday Swim Project.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) has carried out further assessments with Griffins of Enfield in respect of accrediting their masters section. She also visited Bexley SC for the same reason. Next week she is turning her attention to all of her outstanding admin in readiness for the New Year.
This week Bastien Wallace (Project Manager Barking & Dagenham) has been involved in direct consultation with young people talking about the possibilities around careers in aquatics with local residents. They gave some powerful massages about how best to communicate with young people who aren’t in education, and shared their attitudes towards swimming. Bastien also enjoyed some face to face communications sessions in Dagenham Pool and Abbey Sports Centre, speaking with a range of customers about free swimming and the Adult & Child classes beginning tomorrow.
This week Nik Jovanovic (West London Waterpolo Coach) spent a couple of days introducing mini polo and water polo to school sessions at Gurnell leisure Centre, in preparation of these sessions that will be starting at Gurnell from January. Nik also attended meetings with GLL, West London Penguins and Beckenham water polo clubs regarding water polo pathways in London boroughs.
Next week London swimming will be organising the second West London Mini Polo tournament. This will be a great opportunity for all mini polo players from West London to show their improvements and play and have fun. The Tournament will take place at Gurnell Leisure centre, Wednesday 17th December, 5.30-7.00 pm. Registration will take place at 5.15pm and fee is £1.50.
