Olympians to deliver Masterclasses
Cassie Patten and Jo Jackson, Olympic bronze medalists from Beijing will be holding a series of masterclasses to cater for a range of swimmers. For more details and to book on to a class go to

Synchronised Swimming on TV
Just to let you know that there is going to be some synchro on TV this week.
Thursday 8pm E4 – Come Dine with me, two of Seymour’s Swimmers are in the Pool at Caprice’s house while she entertains her guests on this program. They will be in the pool at her luxury home while she cooks.
Sunday 8pm BBC1 – Strictly Come Dancing, the camera’s came along to Seymours training session to see if there were any similarity between ballroom and Synchro. They filmed the club at training and then interviewed a few swimmers.
Merton School of Diving and Trampolining have received a £500 award from Mars Refuel. The club will now be purchasing wall bars and having them installed, to help with their new strength and conditioning programme. Congratulations!!

Nuala Muir Cochrane, the ASA Lifelong Participation Officer, is keen to establish a group of swimmers, who are willing to communicate with her by email about the sort of activities and events they would like to see delivered at a local level which may encourage them to compete. Nuala is not looking for swimmers who regularly compete as she has numerous ideas from them. This week
Colin Brown (RD) completed a number of staff appraisals, and attended an Aquatics Centre stakeholder meeting on the Olympic Park and was impressed at how much progress have been made in the construction. Colin also met Chris Smith of City of London to ensure a joined up approach to work in East London with regard to water polo and handball. Colin also attended a meeting with Islington Council and Aquaterra Leisure to look at the next quarters development of the Everyday Swim Programme. Lastly Colin also wrote out to all local authorities and operators to inform them of our timelines for implementation of our strategy

Next week: Colin will be meeting with the Learning & Skills Council to look at routes into employment in Aquatics, and meeting Councils and Clubs in Harrow and Greenwich. At the end of the week Colin will be meeting with University of East London, Newham Council and other asa staff to take forward our strategic partnership.
Last Week Mark Griggs (EO) held at tutor meeting which a number of tutors and London Leisure College attended. The meeting was productive and lots of topic where covered. The minutes have now been distributed to the tutor workforce.

This week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has been busy working on the sports science & young volunteer packages and confirming details on future Master Classes across the disciplines. Jo also had her appraisal this week with Colin, to reflect on her new role and transition into the team. Teachers & coaches have the opportunity to attend the soon to be accredited CPD, Inward & Reverse Skill Chains workshop taking place on November 22nd. There's also the Basic Synchro Judges takes place on November 29th and a Waterpolo Tables Officials Course starting next month. This week Janna Callan (RDO) had her appraisal with Colin Brown and met with Richard Whitehead (London Swimming's Finance Officer) to discuss the disability budget and plans for 2009. Next week Janna will be meeting with the clubs in Greenwich to discuss the pathway for swimming and attending a meeting in Loughborough with the Development Officers from other regions.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) has attended the National Swim21 Panel in London where she is pleased to announce Griffins of Enfield Swimming Club were accredited with swim21 accreditation at both teaching and skill development levels. She has also had an enjoyable meeting with Ealing Swimming Club regarding their re-accreditation next year and developed the Swim21 homepage on the London Swimming website where you can now download all of the new assessment criteria. Next week she will be attending the Regional Development Officers meeting in Loughborough and meeting with Janna Callan on how to progress Swim21 in London over the next 12 months
This week has seen
Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) starting to collate the information gathered by the Lewisham pools regarding the October Offers. She has also been busy investigating the upskilling of year 10/11 pupils from Lewisham currently studying JSLA / CSLA and GCSE PE to become young club officials
www.officialsports.org.These students will be assisting with the running of the School Swimming Competitions 08/09, and affiliating to the local club, Saxon Crown, so that they can gain asa technical qualifications. Good experience for 2012!! Jo also has been viewing the first proofs of the two swimming publications she is currently working on with local designers. Jo also had her quarterly appraisal with Colin Brown this week.
This week Bastien Wallace - Project Manager (Barking & Dagenham) has spent the week further establishing a network of contacts to scope out and implement the project – spoken to Neighbourhood Managers, Sports Workers, Skills Active, Children’s Centre Managers and the Head of School Physical Education. Bastien has also completed a draft training plan, and drafted the Christmas holiday timetable.
This week Nik Jovanovic (West London Waterpolo Coach) had very productive meetings with representatives from Harrow and Ealing about the organisation of mini-polo school tournaments in those boroughs, and creating exit routes for participants interested in water-polo. Both tournaments will most likely be organised between January - March time so there will be enough time to prepare the borough's mini polo teams for mini youth games. The junior water polo section at Ealing Marlins is preparing for a demonstration match at the annual Christmas Cracker Gala on 14th of December and the Junior U12 and U14 Penguin teams are preparing for their first London League tournaments in the following month.
