Young Volunteer Questionnaire
The asa is currently working with the asa Youth Forum to review the way it recruits and supports young volunteers. To be able to improve your experience as a volunteer and encourage more young volunteers to become active, we kindly request that you complete and return the questionnaire. This is to be filled out by any past, current or future (considering) volunteers under the age of 25. Please return your completed questionnaire by 31st July 2008 to youthforum@swimming.org
Becontree Swimming Club are recruiting for a part-time development coach. Exciting developments are happening within Barking and Dagenham. London Masters Swimming need to hire a central London Pool for a Masters Fun

London Masters Committee are keen to hear from London Swimmers as to whether there is any interest in running a London Postal Individual Medley Challenge - the idea is for swimmers to see what distance they can cover in half and hour going through the medley strokes of butterfly, back, breast stroke and freestyle. Colin Brown (RD): This week Colin attended the Regional Swim 21 panel with a particular view to how we can help the development of existing Swim 21 clubs. Colin was also the guest speaker at Sport England's Annual review at the Oval. Later in the week Colin briefly met with Secretary of State Andy Burnham MP about the free swimming offer from government. Colin also visited the Age Groups in Sheffield with Stephen Hammond MP as part of his parliamentary sports fellowship. It was a packed half day including a back stage tour of Ponds Forge and meetings with coaches, officials and finishing with lunch with ASA President Alan Donlan.
Next week: Colin will be meeting London Volunteering so that we can look at setting up recruitment channels to get more people from outside the sport. Colin will also be attending a meeting Chaired by Kate Hoey MP on developing the 'London Legacy Plan for Sport'. Later in the week Colin will be visiting Westminster Borough Squad and meeting some new club chairman as they come into post.
This week Mark Griggs (EO) attended an Education Officer meeting and also had a handover meeting with Jo Honey, who leaves the ASA at the end of the month.

After a refreshing week away, this week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has been working on finalising the venue for the ACM http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/384 and confirming the workshops, presenters & guest speakers. Jo has also spent time on sorting the synchro camps to start in September, and been planning diving development workshops. Jo has met with Redbridge & Hillingdon Council, Ilford Diving Club and GLL this week.
Janna Callan (RDO) has now returned from her annual leave and is pleased to be back in London. Janna had a few emails to catch up on this week and worked on the September pool programme for Barking and Dagenham. Next week Janna will be meeting with Teresa Parish to discuss the opportunities with Skills Active for the apprentership programme in Barking and Dagenham and meeting with Saxon Crown Swimming Club.
This week Jo Melchior (EDS-Lewisham) has been concentrating on developing an extensive advertising and marketing programme for Lewisham in the months after the Summer Holidays, she has also been working on the Summer Roadshows and some upcoming CPD's. Next week sees the first full week of the Summer Free Swim and the start of the Leisure Operators summer activity programme. It will be good to see the training already accessed via the project being put into action.
This week Annabel Kehoe (EDS-Islington) has beenputting the final touches to the summer programme that kicks off on the 26th July and runs through to the 31st August. The 5-week programme includes Super Swim, a multi-aquatic activity, Kids Swimfit, Snorkelling classes, and intensive swimming lessons across the four pools of Islington. Annabel has been pleased with the feedback received on Splash magazine. So far she has received plenty of applications for the free prize draw that was advertised in Splash. Annabel also met with Helen James from Islington Children’s Services and Tina Kramer, Islington Health Projects Manager, to discuss potential access to a recently opened hydrotherapy.
Next week, Annabel will be working on several nationally focus projects
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) has attended the Swim21 Regional Panel and enjoyed meeting the panel members, she visited Romford Town SC to discuss re-accreditation next year, met with the London Sports Forum for Disabled People to ascertain how they can work together, finalised the paperwork in respect of the clubs due to be revalidated at the Swim21 National Panel and decided she was going to come out of retirement after four years to swim at the Disability Nationals in November. Next week she is starting to prepare for the annual conference on 14th September http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/384
