London Youth Games Diving - A new date has been set. Further details at http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/332
 
The ASA is looking to recruit one young person to undertake an amazing opportunity as a Young Official Development Officer. The Youth Sport Trust and Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) is excited about extending the Young Officials programme and enabling more young people to take up roles as technical sports officials within swimming. Surrey Masters Championship Meet 28th June at Elmbridge Pool. Please note that sessions 1 & 2 will now be run as a single session with warm up at 12.30pm with a 1pm start.
 
Masters swim camp – Aquacity/ Slovakia 29/11-06/12/08
(coach: Laurie Dormer) – website www.aquacity.sk
All ages masters swimmers – able to swim a length (25m) on all 4 strokes.
Camp focus will be on developing stroke technique. Differentiated sets depending on strengths and ability. Further details contact Michele Cousins on michelecousins@hotmail.com
 
Youth & Bagcat Championships
Although it is widely rumoured that Gurnell is a “slow pool” in the very successful Youth Championships – Thanks to the usual London Events Team and Ealing SC - there were 30 Event Best Performances and two London Region Records. Swimmers from 22 different Clubs won medals
 
The Bagcat Championships are also proving very successful with half the programme completed there are already 24 Event Best performances, 15 from girls and 9 from boys. 
The star so far being Erin Nabney of Barnet Copthall with 3 EPBs in her 3 Gold medals.
 
Also chalking up numerous Event Best times are 12 year old Sean Houlihan (Romford) with 5 Golds out of 6 individual events, 11 yr. Kelly Hookway (Camden Swiss Cottage) and 13 yr. Karley Mann (Hillingdon) with 4 Golds each, and 12 yr. Madeleine Tichborne (Barnet Copthall) with 3 Golds and 12 yr. Tommy Willis (Borough of Waltham Forest) who also won 4 Golds.

Greenwich Leisure deadline for athlete and coach bursaries:
The GLL Foundation has launched with bursaries for athletes and coaches available for those operating from a GLL facility or GLL operated Borough. http://www.gllsportfoundation.org/default.asp The deadline for applications is the 30 June.
 
Colin Brown (RD): Colin spent two days at the asa in Loughborough with the finance team. Colin also attended an Aquatics Centre stakeholder meeting. Colin visited Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club and gained a good insight into their programme. Colin was also interviewed by the BBC Politics Show on the state of swimming pools in London. This will be shown on Sunday at midday and will be available online at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/politics_show/default.stm
 
 
Next week: Colin will be completing staff appraisals and hosting a networking session with leisure operators. Colin will also be attending the ASA Staff development conference at the end of the week.
 
Mark Griggs (EO) was on annual leave until Wednesday. The rest of the week has been spent catching up on course administration.

This week Janna Callan (RDO) has met with Edmonton Phoenix Swimming Club, who are now ready to submit their application for Swim21 to the London Swim21 Panel - Janna is confident that they will achieve accreditation in August. Janna also met with Griffins of Enfield who are working hard to gain accreditation, this was Janna's first meeting with the club and she looks forward to working with them. 
 
Janna spent time in Barking and Dagenham, with two of the leisure centres developing her understanding of swimming across the borough. 
 
This week was Jemma Konuralp's first, who is London Swimming's new Quality Coordinator, Janna has assisted in Jemma's induction and has helped her develop her understanding of Swim21. 
 
Next week Janna will be attending the Halliwick Competition in Enfield, meeting the marketing department in Barking and Dagenham, developing the project plans for the swimming project in Barking and Dagenham, attending the disability sports meeting in the borough and spending three days in Loughborough at the ASA English Programmes Conference. 
 
This week Jo Calvino (RDDO) has attended the East Region TDC meeting and the London TDC mtg. Jo is liaising with the SW region regarding the final preparations for the Diving National skills competition in July, and has set up 4 club visits across South region, discussing Swim21, and club development plans. Jo is currently considering dates for tutor training for diving.
 
Last week Annabel Kehoe (EDS - Islington) worked on the final editing of the swimming magazine that she will be publishing for Islington School Children. The magazine highlights the upcoming Olympics, careers that swimming plays a role in, outdoor swimming venues in London and advertises the extensive summer holiday pool programme.
 
Next week Annabel will be coordinating some upcoming training opportunities within Islington and looking at further marketing opportunities.
 
Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) Jemma has enjoyed her first week with London Swimming, has met Edmonton Phoenix Swimming Club and Griffins of Enfield Swimming Club. Jemma has been to Loughborough for her staff induction and attended the Swim21 Marketing Group.
 
Next week, Jemma will be meeting the whole of the London Swimming team, and looking at the revalidation process.
