A strategy to get London Swimming 2008-2012+
Colin Brown (RD): This week Colin has had productive meetings with Newham Volunteer Programme on how we can access the 3,000 volunteers they have on their books to support events and development opportunities in East London. Colin and Janna also interviewed candidates for the post of Quality Co-Ordinator

Next week: Colin will be meeting with key partners to score 'A strategy to Get London Swimming 2008-2012+'. The scores and comments will then be published as part of our annual report to members in September. Colin will also be meeting Barking & Dagenham PCT over their investment into swimming to re-dress health inequalities. Colin will be attending sessions in Hillingdon on building their vision for a Borough wide swimming programme. At the end of week Colin will be meeting with David Sparkes and the University of East London on building a strong partnership in East London. On Saturday Colin will be spending time with the London Swimming Board on an away day to look at the challenges and opportunities that face us in the next year.
This week Mark Griggs (EO) continued to meet with pool operators to finalise structures for setting up course in Havering, Harrow, Hammersmith & Fulham and Waltham Forest

This week
Janna Callan (RDO) enjoyed volunteering with Thames21 (
www.thames21.org.uk) clearing up the riverbanks near the office. Janna also attended the London Synchro Meeting and looks forward to progressing synchro in London.
Next week Janna will be in Loughborough for two days working on the ASA English Programmes Conference and attending the National Swim21 Panel. Janna will also be meeting Edmonton Phoenix with Cathy for their Swim21 audit.
Cathy Carr (RDO) is on annual leave until 14 May.
Ben Campion (Investment Manager) - This week has been focused on one main area, the development of a funding pack to help access local, regional and national funding.
News from the West London Water Polo programme is excellent; approximately 50 young people are taking part in mini-polo (session started the week commencing the 21st of April). See

Towards the end of the week I will spending time with Sport England looking at market segmentation and seeing how we can use the information to further develop swimming in London.
This week Jo Calvino (RDDO) has unfortunately been unwell, but has tried to finalise details for the Diving World Series in Sheffield 24/25 May.
This week Jo Melchior (EDS – Lewisham) is on annual leave.

Michelle Weltman (Disability Mentor Coach) - During April Michelle attended a weeklong Classification course, which was very useful and has ensured that she keeps progressing with this.
This month Michelle will be mentoring swimming teachers in Hackney and Newham who are working on the Swim Start (PESSCL) link in both Boroughs, she will also spend time visiting these sessions. Michelle will also be spending time with the swimmers who are on the Coachabiltiy programme and will be sorting out some volunteer time for them to get involved and use their teaching skills.
There is a squad session on the 18th of May. Michelle will be looking at 2 new swimmers who are disabled and she will then work with the families to ensure they have access to clubs in their area. This weekend Michelle will also be visiting the Paralympic world cup.
