Last week: Colin Brown (RD) attended the highly successful World Short Course Championships at the Manchester Evening News arena which has really set a new bar for swimming events into the future. The logistics of 130 countries competing at an event and what is required from the organisers and volunteers on the ground is quite daunting. Suddenly 4 years till 2012 to build our capacity doesn't seem long at all. In order to invest in our volunteers of the future we will be offering 'work placement' opportunities at our summer championships - more details to follow.

This week: Colin has spent time attending the national Everyday Swim partners meeting to learn from all the other projects. Equally important are settling the details for Aqua Extreme Project with Pro-Active West and looking at potential new work with Barking & Dagenham Primary Care Trust.

Next week: Colin will be inputting into London Legacy plan, shadowing MP Stephen Hammond, attending a stakeholder meeting on the Aquatics Centre and pathway meetings in Islington and Greenwich. Last but not least will be the Aquatic Road show on the 27 April at Erith Leisure Centre http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/286

Last week Mark Griggs (EO) was on volunteer leave helping the scouts out on a sailing trip to Norfolk.

Over the last two weeks Janna Callan (RDO) has had a Swim21 theme to her work, by assessing the diving and synchro section of Barnet Copthall Swimming Club and working on the Swim21 programme nationally. This theme will continue into next week with the Swim21 assessment of Havering Cormorants Diving Club

Ben Campion (Investment Manager) Last week in Manchester was fantastic. A jam packed week that included a visit to the launch of temporary pools to schools programme, a facilities conference and viewing what turned out to be a truly great World Swimming Championship. This week has also been busy with two days spent with the pro-active central partnership looking at leadership in sport and physical activity.

Key objectives for next week will be re-focussing on Water Polo. There will be a meeting about the West London Waterpolo iniative, more details will be available on the www.londonswimming.org website.

Last week Jo Calvino (RDDO) met with Rebecca Burrows to finalise the Talent proposals and details of the Diving World Series Legacy plan. She also visited Barnet Copthall with Janna Callan for their Swim21 assessment.

This week Jo will be competing at the European Weightlifting Championships, then off to Edinburgh for the British Diving coaches camp, finishing off by attending the London/East level 4/5 event and a visiting Havering Cormorants club on Sunday.

Last week Jo Melchior (EDS - Lewisham) was busy across Lewisham meeting with pool staff and colleagues in Extended Services, looking at ways to engage with Schools in the area. On Thursday it was a privilege to accompany two of Lewisham's Everyday Swim (EDS) "Champions" to Manchester to see the World Championships, and to spend some time with Duncan Goodhew, including a pool session in the Manchester Aquatics Centre, by way of thanks for their efforts and contributions to the project. Look out for reports and photos soon on the EDS Lewisham website.

This week has seen Jo catching up on the inevitable admin work, sorting some last minute organisation for impending education courses and CPD's, and working on upcoming marketing and promotional activity, finishing the week by attending the ES Partners Conference in Birmingham. Next week sees further work promoting swimming in the NDC area and assessing the success of the pilot "Start Ups" holiday course, delivered to those swimmers in Year 6 who are really struggling to get going in the pool, by giving them intensive high quality teaching.

Annabel Kehoe (EDS - Islington) spent the first half of last week meeting with all Aquaterra Leisure's general managers, discussing and planning the implementation and running of Liquid Swim Programme, National Plan for Teaching Swimming, a summer holiday programme and a possible social water polo league. Annabel also worked on finalising much of the marketing material for the Liquid Swim Programme. The later half of the week was spent in Manchester. Annabel was accompanying Lucy Wilson who was Islington's guest at the second day of the World Swimming Championships. Lucy was joined by several other Everyday Swim 'Champions' who were invited to the Championships as recognition for their inspiration in encouraging others to swim. Also during the week, 12 candidates have been working hard towards their Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification. The candidates have been practicing their teaching skills on local school children who were invited to take part in a swimming stroke workshop ahead of their school galas.

This week Annabel will be attending the Everyday Swim Partners' meeting in Birmingham.
