London Swimming has called a Special Council Meeting
to consider a resolution to allow the investment into a company that manufacturers mobile pool. The meeting will take place at Southbury Leisure Centre, Southbury Road, Enfield, EN1 1YP on Sunday 16th March at 12.30 pm. All swimming clubs have been mailed with details and delegate forms. Any clubs not receiving this information can download it from our website (see above).
Colin Brown (RD) Last week: The highlight of the week was a visit to Manchester accompanying the Olympic Security Unit and Borders and immigration Agency in meeting the organisers of the World Short Course Championships and the Greater Manchester Police to look at accreditation and security arrangements. With 130 countries attending the event in early April it is a real opportunity to look at procedures on a scale similar to that of the Olympics http://www.manchester2008.org/
Colin also chaired the first meeting of London Swimming disability strategic group, which is looking forward to how we develop this area.
Next week: Sees the start of the teams 3 monthly appraisals to benchmark the individual progress that they have made since December. Colin will also meeting with Sport England to look at the strategic options for the temporary swimming pools to be deployed post Olympics. The end of the week brings the interview for the Water Polo Coach (part time) in West London, http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/204 and a key meeting with Hillingdon Council and partners.
Last two weeks Mark Griggs (EO) trained the GLL site staff in being the contact for the Swimming Education Programme. Mark will now be working with these people to bring on line courses in their centres. Mark also attended the pilot Expert Witness training in Staines, which hope to train experienced Level 2 Teachers to assist in the Vocational Unit in the Level 2 Teaching Aquatics Courses

Ben Campion (RDO) Ben has been on annual leave this week.
Last week Cathy Carr (RDO) had a productive meeting with Suzanne Philpot in Hillingdon around school swimming and attended the North London Stakeholder meeting which was very interesting. Next week Cathy will be meeting with Pro-Active West to discuss Aqua Extreme and attending an RDO meeting in the office. Cathy will be also attending the Masters Committee meeting and meeting with Pro-Active North to discuss the memorandum of understanding between London Swimming and the North partnership. Congratulations to Ruislip and Northwood Masters who won the “Heights” Top Team trophy at the Isle of Wight Masters Open Meet.
Last week, Janna Callan (RDO), attended the London Disability Strategic group, this was a fantastic meeting with representation from, national ASA, LSF (London Sports Forum) and Halliwick. The group has agreed to meet on a needs basis, where the good work will continue.
Next week Janna has her review with Colin Brown and will be meeting with Karen West from the ODA to discuss the state of swimming in the 5 host boroughs.
This week Jo Calvino (RDDO) has been working on the schools flip n fun competition, and had a meeting with Barent Copthall-Diving regarding their Swim21 file. Jo attended a training day in Loughborough, and has been finalizing reports for the National TDC & various regions. Jo has also been completing arrangements for the second Strength and Conditioning course in the North, and athlete development days in London and the SW, further details for development days will follow shortly.
This has been a relatively quieter week for Jo Melchior (EDS-Lewisham) as she has been spending a great deal of her time on monitoring and evaluation projects. She has met with colleagues from Looked After Children to work on how best to advertise the services available through Everyday Swim. Jo also had a pleasant journey out to Essex to spend some valuable time with the design team at Laban Brown working on several marketing promotions for the upcoming months. Next week sees Jo pushing on with the planning and delivery of several new projects.
