Olympic Coach for Olympic Borough

Olympic Coach comes to Olympic Borough

Olympic Borough Greenwich has recruited Olympic Coach Doug Campbell for the next three months. Doug will work with the local clubs and the leisure provider (GLL) to establish the good practise that exists in the borough and develop a clear sustainable pathway for swimming and the other aquatic disciplines in Greenwich.

Doug was a member of the British coaching team at two Olympic Games (Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996).  In 2004 Campbell won the British Swimming Coaches & Teachers Association (BSCTA) Excellence in Coaching Award, and Coach of the Year Award in 1994 and 1995.

For the past ten years Doug has been working at Millfield School in Somerset, as the Director of Swimming and Head Coach.  Millfied Schools is widely known throughout the swimming community for excellent results. Millfield won the Top Club at the GB National Youth Championship in 2004, were the winners of the National League Final in 2005 and runners up in 2006.

Working in a London Borough will not be new for Doug, as he has already had years of high level coaching experience in Beckenham and Barnet.

Dervish Konralp, a Paralympian currently training with one of the Greenwich swimming clubs (Greenwich Borough Mariners) said “This is an exciting time for Greenwich, employing someone of Doug Campbell’s calibre clearly shows the councils commitment to swimming.  I really look forward to working with Doug, and have every confidence that a clear swimming pathway with all the necessary support will be established for the borough.  This will be a true legacy of the 2012 Games for Greenwich.
