Weekly News

 
The team will be attending a themed team meeting entitled “Forecasting the Future”. The team will then be attending their Christmas lunch followed by a Parliamentary tour.
 
This week Janna Callan (RDO) met Shaun Powel from Coach Ability (LSF) to discuss the progress London Swimming had made with the project. Shaun was extremely pleased with the progress made and said "You guys at swimming are blazing the trail and it would be great if you took the lead with enabling disabled people to train as coaches - it gives us something to aim for beyond the end of the project which is really important!" 
 
Next week Janna will be attending the London Swimming Disability Squad session, where she will help communicate the new squad criteria and set-up for 2008. Janna will be meeting with Dagenham Swimming Club to progress their Swim21 application and attending a Summer of Sport meeting at the LDA office.
 
This week Cathy Carr (RDO) attended a very interesting and productive meeting with the Pro-Active North partnership around setting up a memorandum of understanding between Pro-Active North and London Swimming. Cathy enjoyed her volunteering days and gained an insight into different organisations.
 
Next week Cathy will be meeting with Janna to discuss Swim 21 and will be attending a team meeting and finishing her appraisal with Colin. Cathy will be attending a meeting on Aqua Extreme in Hillingdon and also meeting with Harrow and Ealing to discuss the Get Up and Go funding received to run a girls Aqua Teen (Aquacise) pilot in the February half term. Cathy will be finishing her volunteering and finishing for Christmas on Friday 21st until 7th January 2008.
 
This week Annabel Kehoe (EDS – Islington) concentrated on her project plan for 2008. She met with several key players to discuss the plan, as this is due for submission on Friday. She has also been working on putting the final touches to the pool induction trial for January.
 
Next week, Annabel will be ensuring that everything and everyone is ready to go for the pool induction and will be attending a few meetings to ensure the current momentum is carried into the New Year.
 
This week Kelly Padden (Communications and part time RDO) has been busy making sure she leaves the office in good working order. She has completed all filing, writing how to documents and training Gita in the different aspects of the London Swimming office. Kelly has also finalized the arrangements for tomorrows staff Christmas lunch.
 
Next week Kelly will be going to meet with Kingston Council, D.C Leisure, Kingston Ladies and Kingston Royals Swimming Club. Tuesday will be Kelly’s last day with London Swimming. One of the Youth Council volunteers will be coming into the office to work with Kelly on booking a venue and finalizing the program of events. A photography student will also be coming in to discuss possible projects she may be able to get involved in. Kelly would like to thank everyone for all their time and support over the last year and wish everybody luck in the New Year.
 
This week Mark Griggs (EO) helped Rita by visiting all the school, private health club and hotel pools in Croydon; 19 in total. Mark also attended a National Education Officer meeting in Loughborough.
  
Next week Ellie Purvis, the newly appointed tutor for London and South East Regions, will be tutoring the last day of Unit 6 UKCC Level 2 in Dagenham. On the 17th, 18th and 19th December Ellie will be tutoring the UKCC Level 1 at Feltham Airparcs.
 
This week Colin Brown (RD) has been completing more staff and project appraisals as well as visiting Enfield to chase up a couple of outstanding ASA agreements and look at the councils swimming programme. Colin will be meeting the Enfield Clubs in January to talk with them about the London Swimming Strategy. Colin also attended the UK Coaching Awards as a guest of the Learning and Skills Council's Regional Director, which was an excellent networking opportunity that will broaden our strategic reach across London.

Next week: Colin will completing the remaining staff appraisals as well as putting the final finishing touches to the strategy prior to its circulation to clubs in January.

The London Swimming office will be closed from 21 Dec 2007 and will re-open on 2 January 2008.
